Arsenal latest: Including Villa and Denilson

Denilson Arsenal

All the latest Arsenal news and gossip.

Arsenal have cancelled the contract of midfielder Denilson by mutual consent. The 25-year-old had one year left to run on his current deal but had not featured for the club for more than two seasons, spending his time on loan in Brazil.

It is a sign of Arsenal seeking to make savings on their wage bill, and came about because of Sao Paulo's reluctance to pay a fee for his services, with the Gunners at risk of being stuck with him for another season.

His agent says teams in Brazil, Russia, Italy, Germany and Turkey have all made contact over signing Denilson as a free agent.

Arsenal's links with David Villa is under the spotlight, in the wake of a report over the weekend where it was claimed that the striker has told the Barcelona board his preference is to sign for the Gunners.

However the striker is publicly giving little away insisting he is happy enough in Barcelona for now, refusing to comment further on his future. He said he is concentrating on playing for Spain in their upcoming international fixtures, and will not make a decision until his involvement with his country is fulfilled.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has come under criticism from the outspoken Roy Keane after appearing to agree to swap shirts with Neymar mid-match during England's friendly with Brazil. Oxlade-Chamberlain scored after coming on from the bench in the 2-2 draw at the Maracana, and you can watch his goal here.

The former coach of Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama has been talking up his client's chances of a move to the club, describing Arsenal as having a 'big interest' in the Kenyan, information he says was relayed to him by the player's father. Midfielder Aaron Ramsey has been quoted in a Kenyan newspaper of saying he would welcome the midfielder at Arsenal.

Lukas Podolski has rubbished claims he could exit the club, by re-tweeting a comment from former Premier League striker Jan-Aage Fjortoft, who dismissed it as unlikely, an indication that the German wants to stay at the Emirates next season.

Reports in Turkey have linked Andrey Arshavin with a move to Besiktas. Arshavin's Arsenal contract runs out in June and he is currently free to begin negotiating with clubs.

With Arsenal's potential opponents in the Champions League qualifying stages set, we have taken a look at one possibility - Real Sociedad and the potential return of Carlos Vela, who could yet haunt the Gunners.
