Liverpool weekend round-up: Including Suarez and Eriksen

All the news, views and transfer rumours from Anfield this weekend…

Despite Liverpool declaring last week that Luis Suarez was not for sale, that hasn’t stopped media speculation that he is on his way to Spain. But following reports linking him with Real Madrid, it seems their city rivals Atletico are now interested in the Uruguayan as a replacement for Radamel Falcao.

It is no secret that Suarez would like to leave Liverpool. Whether he should, and how he appears to be going about it, are discussions for another day. But the most recent reports are suggesting his future is dependent on that of Napoli striker Edinson Cavani.

The Manchester City target is reportedly waiting to see if Real make an offer for him. Should they do so, Suarez is unlikely to join his countryman at the Bernabeu.

One thing is for sure – however much Liverpool would like to keep him, it appears Suarez doesn’t want to be kept.

While one Suarez may leave, it seems another may be arriving – in the shape of Sporting Lisbon’s Spanish winger Jeffren Suarez. The former Barcelona wide-man has reportedly been on Brendan Rodgers’ radar for some time. And an offer in the region of £3.2million may be enough to secure a move.

It will cost considerably more to sign Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen, who has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield for some time. Likely to leave current club Ajax this summer, the 21-year-old has been speaking about his future, with Borussia Dortmund also interested in bringing him to the Bundesliga.

The German league is on its way up to where the English league is now,” he said. “So I won’t prefer one before the other.

The most important thing is to do what I feel is right. My next club has to express that they really want me.”

Expect Rodgers to be brushing up on his smooth-talk in the near future.

It is also being reported that the Reds hope to sign Sunderland ‘keeper Simon Mignolet for £6.5million as a replacement for Pepe Reina.

Having already moved for free agent Kolo Toure and Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas, it is clear the club are hoping to get the majority of their business completed early.

Whether the Black Cats are willing to accept such an offer remains to be seen. But there is no question that Mignolet has the ability to succeed at Anfield.

And finally, returning to Aspas, the 25-year-old played his final game for Celta Vigo yesterday, setting up the only goal of the game with some fine wing-play.

It appears the Reds are forming an exciting group of young attacking talent. Now if only they could keep hold of Suarez…
