Five men who could follow Jose Mourinho to Chelsea

Who could follow Jose Mourinho and tread the path to London from Madrid this summer?

As Real Madrid president Florentino Perez confirms that Jose Mourinho will return to Chelsea this summer we look at five men who could follow him.

Sami Khedira

The German central midfielder has been one of the players thoroughly disappointed with the departure of Mourinho this summer. The combative player has benefited from the coaching of the Portuguese during his time there.

And the 26-year-old has been an ever present for Mourinho during his three years in Spain; a favourite of the former Inter Milan coach who could also be a useful addition to Chelsea’s midfield.

Diego Lopez

Brought in as cover for the injured and out of favour Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas after he suffered a broken hand and broken relationship with Mou. He went on to surpass the Madridista as the number one goalkeeper with some impressive performances. With Thibaut Courtois expected to be loaned out to Atletico Madrid once again the club will need a second choice for Petr Cech.

Lopez could be the perfect option.

Aitor Karanka

The 39-year-old has been assistant to Mourinho since 2010 and the two have had an excellent working relationship at the helm of Real Madrid.

With the assistant role open at Chelsea along with the main role Mourinho might want to bring him along. Karanka has already spoken of the possibility of joining him or potentially taking a role in the French top division.

Luka Modric

Mourinho was a big fan of the player for years and finally got the Croatian last summer for a massive fee from Tottenham Hotspur.

He had a difficult start to his time in Spain including being named the flop of the year. But 2013 has been far more fruitful with some excellent performances over the past few months making him look a regular for next season.

But if Mourinho gets his way Modric may return to English football next season.

Fabio Coentrao

Mourinho’s countryman has not been a regular in the first team but that is more down to the fans then the manager who have not taken to the 25-year-old.

Injury has also played a part and with Ashley Cole needing decent cover the versatile player might just be perfect.

Would you like to see any of these men at Stamford Bridge next season?
