Chelsea weekend roundup: Including Mourinho imminent and Lukaku

Mourinho Dugout

News and gossip from the past 24 hours at Stamford Bridge.

Jose Mourinho is again all that dominates the tip of Chelsea tongues this weekend after he managed his final game for Real Madrid on Saturday. He is expected to sign on for a second spell in charge of Chelsea this week but the Premier League announced it just a little prematurely. They apologised for the ‘mistake’.

However Ricardo Carvalho was less secretive as he stated Mourinho could win the Premier League back at The Bridge while Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has also announced he will be going back to Chelsea.

It has been reported that Chelsea may be willing to sell both Branislav Ivanovic and David Luiz to Barcelona in a joint £40 million transfer this summer. The quite ludicrous rumour comes courtesy of the Daily Star on Sunday who believe that Mourinho is happy to see them go.

Sunderland are joining the race to sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku on loan; but it looks as if he will stay with The Blues next season. Sunderland were said to be keen on adding the powerful forward to their ranks after he scored 17 goals on loan at West Brom last season. But Mourinho is said to be keen on using the player next season.

Outgoing midfielder Yossi Benayoun is said to be keen on a move to the MLS. The Israeli is set to leave the club this summer after falling out with the clubs fans and it now seems as though he is set to leave the UK altogether. He said America was one of his ‘favourite options’ and that he was giving it his all to come and play Stateside.

On the site we have brought you the news that on-loan Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has won the Zamora Trophy as the best goalkeeper in La Liga for 2012-13. The 21-year-old beat Willy Caballero and Victor Valdes to the accolade after another impressive campaign for Los Colchoneros for the Belgian.

And finally we have also brought you five names that could follow Jose Mourinho to Chelsea from Real Madrid including a creative midfielder, a versatile left-sided operator and an assistant manager.
