Gonzalo Higuain’s future and the performance of Real Madrid was something of a side-show to the Jose Mourinho leaving party yesterday evening as the former Chelsea boss readied for his return to Stamford Bridge this summer.
But there may have been a clear indication that he would be on his way when he walked out at the Bernabeu for the game against Osasuna; because Higuain was handed the captains armband for the fixture.
But we were left in no doubt after the game about his future. As he confirmed he would be leaving the Bernabeu after seven years at the club in search of a new challenge:
‘’I'm going to leave Madrid. Now I have been here and now I've made my decision: I want a change of scenery. I decided together with my family. I had to earn all fighting to the death, and I leave happy: I won titles, I was captain of the Real, the people shouted in chorus my name."
So this should come as great news to Arsenal.
The Gunners have long been linked with the Argentine international as he continually was linked with a move away from the club. Now the 25-year-old has confirmed his desire to leave the club it should give them hope of a potential deal.
Valued at around £18 million there is also plenty of competition for his services; particulary from Juventus.
So here comes the bad news for any Gooners out there desperately wanting to see Higuain in North London; as he confirmed that the interest from Juventus is ‘concrete’.
‘’I have not decided where I will play but the club knows that I want to leave. Now we think about it, but no one does talk about me. Concrete offer and I like Juventus, a club with history, but I do not know where I will go. Here I leave some friends, which is not easy, but I really want a change of scenery."
So Arsenal would have to move quickly for the player should they want him; but it seems Higuain will travel to international duty with Argentina this month with Juventus in pole position to snap him up.
What do you make of Higuain’s comments?
