Manchester United and City target rejects €18million Real Madrid switch

According to reports in Spain Thiago Alcantara has already made a decision on where he won't be playing football next season.

This summer the transfer prospect of Barcelona talent Thiago Alcantara has to be one of the most intriguing of the bunch.

At the start of 2012 he was highlighted by FIFA as one of the top players to watch worldwide after demonstrating his talents, if not fleetingly, in the Barcelona B and senior squads.

But he has suffered with injuries and serious competition for places since then and now it appears he may be open to a move this summer.

Of course this has made him an enviable product.

The son of Brazilian World Cup Winner Mazinho; the Italian-born Spanish international made his debut at just 18 and is widely regarded as one of Europe’s top talents. At the age of 22 we have yet to see the best of him.

But the most titillating facet of any Thiago transfer is his bizarre buy-out clause recently activated in his Barca contract.

This summer; a release clause of just €18million has suddenly kicked into action which has caused much of the interest in his services.

But the clause has an expiration date. It only runs until the end of July when it shoots back up into the ‘no way are we paying that’ realm of transfer fees.

In England Manchester United and Manchester City are the two teams regarded as having an interest in the player; while Italian outfit AC Milan are also now said to be joining the race.

But according to Mundo Deportivo he has already rejected the opportunity to move to one club.

They report that Barcelona’s bitter rivals Real Madrid have an interest in the player.

Quotes from Real president Florentino Perez claim:

‘’If there is a player who does not seem to me right Barcelona. If Barcelona does not care as we do, we'll go for it,"

It would be a sharp piece of business for Real to steal away a Barca man but Thiago would have to be brave to do so.

It is not often an avenue many a player takes lightly, with Javier Saviola the last in 2007; but after seeing the way the likes of Luis Figo and Michael Laudrup were received after making the switch you can understand caution on Thiago’s part.

But according to the report he has already made his mind up in regards to a switch to Real; it simply won’t happen.

They report that:

Thiago Alcantara has no intention of going to Real Madrid.

So with the Spanish rivals reportedly out of the running it leaves him open for the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City to make their move.

But not until after the UEFA Under-21 Championships in Israel, where Thiago is representing Spain, as he recently stated he will not make a decision until after the competition comes to a head this month.

What do you make of the report? Could Thiago still go to Real?
