Tottenham Hotspur latest: Including Villa and Bernard

David Villa

All the latest news and gossip relating to Tottenham Hotspur.

Spanish striker David Villa is considering an option from Tottenham, report The Mirror - who base their sources in Spain, while Arsenal and Liverpool are also each said to have made an approach. Spurs are thought to have an agreement in place with Barcelona for the 31-year-old.

It was earlier this month claimed that Spurs had an agreement with the striker, but their lack of Champions League football is said to have caused Villa second thoughts.

Exciting Brazilian talent Bernard has been linked with a move to Spurs. He plays alongside Ronaldinho at Atletico Mineiro and has said he will consider his future after their involvement in the Copa Libertadores is over. Newspaper reports in Brazil named Tottenham as an interested team. Bernard is an attacking midfielder and an alternative to Cristian Eriksen.

The Express report that selling Gareth Bale to another English club is an absolute non-starter, with Daniel Levy refusing to consider it despite the fact both Manchester United and Manchester City were said to be preparing offers. We have published a piece on why if Spurs did accept an offer from Madrid, they must be sure to sign Gonzalo Higuain in exchange.

Jermain Defoe says he wants to emulate Ryan Giggs's football longevity, and has told of his passion for playing for England. The striker was talking about how he keeps in shape and does not drink alcohol, in his efforts to maximise and prolong his playing career. Speaking to ITV, he went onto describe pulling on the England shirt as the 'best feeling in the world.'

Reports in Spain have re-asserted the belief that Andre Villas-Boas is on the Real Madrid manager shortlist. The Spurs boss is thought to be a back-up option if a deal for Carlo Ancelotti falls through, although Tottenham would seek to resist any approach.

We have also taken a look at why with Christian Atsu linked as an incoming winger over the past few days, Spurs would do better to sign Tom Ince.
