BlackRock has appointed Daniel Whitestone as a Director to the BlackRock UK Small / Mid Cap equities team with effect from the 1st June.

Whitestone joins from UBS where he was head of the UK Small / Mid-Cap sales desk. Prior to joining UBS in 2009, Whitestone worked in equity sales at Noble & Co from 2006 to 2009 and as a strategy consultant at Accenture between 2003 and 2006. He was ranked number one salesperson in the Extel Small / Mid-Cap sales ratings in both 2011 and 2012.

The BlackRock UK Small / Mid Cap Team manages £4.8bn of assets under management on behalf of its clients, including the £1.9bn BlackRock UK Special Situations Fund and £0.9bn BlackRock UK Emerging Companies Hedge Fund (1). The team Whitestone joins comprises a six strong team led by Richard Plackett, Head of the UK Small/Mid Cap team, who between them have a combined total of more than 80 years’ experience of investing in small and medium sized companies.

All the funds managed by the team will benefit from Whitestone's research input analytics, financial modeling skills and insights, but he will work initially as an analyst for the BlackRock UK Emerging Companies Hedge Fund, which is co-managed by Ralph Cox and Richard Plackett.

Richard Plackett, Head of the UK Small/Mid Cap Team, said: 'Dan is an exceptional talent in the UK small and mid-cap market and our growing asset base has given us the opportunity to hire him and expand further the analytical resources that we can use to identify and invest in smaller organisations which are capable of superior long-term growth and returns to our clients'.
