Five alternative Cavani targets for Manchester City and Chelsea

Manchester City and Chelsea target Edinson Cavani has admitted that he would prefer a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid.

It seems to be a desire he’s had from a very young age, which means Manchester City and Chelsea are now going to have to think of alternative targets to add to their attacking fire power ahead of the new season.

“As a child I dreamed of playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona,” said the Napoli striker.

So who are the best options for the Premier League big boys now that Cavani appears keen to fulfill that childhood dream?

Wayne Rooney

Rooney is still a very good option for Chelsea but not for City as Manchester United would be very reluctant to sell to their neighbours.

Rooney made that admission, again, that he wants to leave Old Trafford and there is nothing coming out of the club, which suggests David Moyes has been able to get him to do a u-turn on that request.

Luis Suarez

Speculation is building all the time that Luis Suarez is looking for a way out of Liverpool.

It would take a very special bid from either side to keep him in England and they would need to bear in mind that he’d still be banned for the first six games of next season.

Robert Lewandowski

The Polish front man is a good option for either club following comments from Jurgen Klopp earlier in the week that no move had been agreed with Bayern Munich.

Lewandowski has been heavily linked with a Manchester United switch but both City and Chelsea have the resources available to put in a very big bid, which could grab Borussia Dortmund’s attention.

Karim Benzema

If Cavani ends up going to Real Madrid then the Frenchman could become available and he’d be a great option for either side.

He’s experienced at the top level of European football and it should be a cheaper move than some of the fees being talked about with other players. The option to follow Jose Mourinho to Chelsea could be very tempting for him.

David Villa

Villa could be available this summer on a cut price deal now that Neymar’s move to Barcelona has been confirmed.

Villa is also very experienced in European football and neither City nor Chelsea should have a problem getting the Spaniard to choose them over a proposed move to Arsenal, as they both offer a better chance of silverware and success.

Which target would you want? Who should they target who’s not on the list?
