Ajax maestro Christian Eriksen is one of the hottest properties on the continent at present after another impressive season with the Dutch champions.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has been linked with potential moves to Liverpool, Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund to name but a few but Liverpool may hold the key to persuading him that Anfield is where his future lies.
The Dane recently discussed his future and, although it seemed he was most intrigued by a potential switch to Dortmund, he mentioned his international colleague Daniel Agger as a source of wisdom whilst weighing up his options this summer.
“Dortmund is one of the options that will be really good for me," he explained.
“I have read and Liverpool is definitely an option. It is also one of the clubs you'll weight higher than Amsterdam, and it's a different league and a different calibre.”
"It sounds very exciting, but we have to look at it if there is something I do not know if there is anything specific, and I've even talked to Daniel [Agger] about it,” he added.
Liverpool have shown interest in the playmaker for a number of months but, following the departure of Mario Gotze this summer, Borussia Dortmund now find themselves in desperate need of a replacement and, as far as young playmakers go, Eriksen ticks all the boxes.
Meanwhile, Tottenham may well be in the market for a replacement for their own Gareth Bale who is heavily linked with a potential move to the Spanish capital this summer.
Eriksen’s compatriot and good friend Daniel Agger could be the key to opening the door on this transfer. Ajax are likely reigned to losing their main man this summer and as the bids come in it will likely come down to the players’ preference of who he wishes to agree personal terms with.
Agger is one of the Reds’ most important players and if manager Brendan Rodgers wants to win the favour of one of the most-wanted men in Europe he may require the services of his centre-back to get the job done.
Agger is currently away on international duty with Eriksen and the Denmark squad – surely a perfect opportunity for Agger to mention the glorious history of the club, the unrivalled loyalty of the fans on the Kop, the philosophy of the manager, the ambition of the club and the great determination from the players right the way through the team.
Liverpool are going places and, despite a disappointing first season in charge for Rodgers, he can really make a statement of intent by securing Eriksen’s services this summer.
