European transfer talk: Featuring Abidal, Thiago and Marchisio

Santos’ apparent interest in VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Diego has reportedly hastened Atletico Madrid’s negotiations with the German outfit for his signature. The Selecao international could make the move for €15 million before the end of June as Los Colchoneros look to strengthen their side after the imminent departure of Radamel Falcao to AS Monaco.

Barcelona have confirmed that Eric Abidal will be allowed to leave the club this summer. The Frenchman’s playing contract at the club ends in June and the 33-year-old, who recently returned after a year out due to a liver transplant, was offered an ambassadorial role at the Nou Camp. However he wishes to continue playing and is expected to return to France.

Several clubs are being linked with Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara after his buy-out clause dropped to €18 million with AC Milan the latest club said to be chasing his signature. Barca are happy to let the 22-year-old leave the club at that price.

Milan have also reportedly tied down a deal for Verona’s promising midfielder Jorginho. The 21-year-old Brazilian has been in great form in Serie B this season and is expected to arrive on an undisclosed fee; but then be loaned back out to continue his development.

AS Monaco look set to continue their big spending after L’Equipe reported they had made a €25 million bid for Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio. The principality club is ready to double his salary at favourable tax-rates and he has previously worked with the current Monegasque manager Claudio Ranieri.

Monaco are also said to be close to snapping up Valenciennes defender Nicolas Isimat-Mirin. The defender has been linked with several big clubs after a good season with the club and is set to join the big stars already moving to Stade Louis II.

Hannover have completed the signing of athletic defender Salif Sane from Nancy for an undisclosed fee. The 22-year-old has signed a contract until 2017 and is their first signing of the campaign.

Finally, and another player leaving Nancy is Djamel Bakar. He has agreed a free transfer move to 2012 Ligue 1 champions Montpellier after Nancy were relegated to Ligue 2 this season..
