Anzhi offer Newcastle United €18 million for Papiss Cisse - reports Izvestia

Reports in Russia's leading Sports daily suggest that Newcastle United may have received a massive offer for their star striker.

Newcastle United certainly did not have the best of seasons in 2012-13 and now it seems that they may have to brace themselves for a barrage of bids for one of their marquee players.

That is because leading Russian sports daily Izvestia believe that mega-rich Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala are ready to make a bid for the Senegalese striker Papiss Cisse this summer.

The report claims that:

"Anzhi" is considering buying 27-year-old striker Papiss Cisse.

According to "Izvestia", Makhachkala are ready to offer around € 18 million for the transfer forward, - a contract with an annual salary of around € 3 million, which is significantly more than his current salary in the "Newcastle".

Of course he had a scintillating start to his career on Tyneside with an incredible 13 goals in 14 games in his half-season at the club; including the Goal of the Season against Chelsea as The Toon finished in fifth position in the Premier League table.

This season has been far leaner. Her scored 13 goals once again but this time in 47 games across all competitions; with just eight in the Premier League.

But regardless Newcastle United will not be willing to see one of their star men depart just yet.

Cisse has previously courted interest from Russian clubs whilst at SC Freiburg prior to his £9 million move to St James Park in January of 2012. The report even carries quotes from Cisse’s agent Guido Nickolay which confirms the mutual interest:

‘’Papiss really is interested in several Russian clubs, but the call exactly what the team hoped to buy my client, I would not want to, because it will not be very correct on my part’’

It would be strange to see Papiss Cisse suddenly deciding he wants to leave the club; especially for Russia. He is currently happily going out with 'Miss Newcastle' Rachelle Graham but their relationship was affected recently by racist abuse from those ignorant enough to be unhappy at the relationship.

With racism still a problem in the Russian game it would be an odd move; but with Anzhi set to appoint Roberto Carlos as manager perhaps it is an issue this club in particular is trying to combat.

It seems that interest is going to be high in the 27-year-old striker throughout the summer but with the vast riches on offer this is one deal to certainly keep your eyes on.

Do you think Cisse could move to Anzhi?
