Barcelona have given the all clear for sides to try and sign Gerard Deulofeu this summer.
The Spanish giants have reportedly made Deulofeu available for a season long loan deal ahead of next season, which should trigger a Liverpool move with possible competition coming from Arsenal.
The 19-year-old forward featured as a sub for Barcelona on four occasions last season and they seem keen to send him somewhere so he can play a lot of first team games and enhance his experience.
There seem to be several Premier League sides interested in him but Liverpool and Arsenal are the most likely destinations because of the style of football that each side plays.
Arsenal seems more unlikely considering the calibre of midfield and attacking players they already own which means Deulofeu is not guaranteed to start on a regular basis.
He also occasionally plays down the right win, which is a position that Theo Walcott has made his own this season despite his continued requests to play as a centre forward.
Liverpool should be all over this possible deal like a rash because significantly, it’s not going to cost them a single penny.
Brendan Rodgers needs attacking support and he also needs a versatile front man who can play in a variety of different positions.
Deulofeu could choose Liverpool over any other side because of the style of football they play when they’re at their purest which is very similar to the football he would have been brought up on during his time with the Spanish club.
Rodgers has geared his Liverpool side towards rapid pass and move football, which is based around speed, fitness and power and they also offer the chance for Deulofeu to effectively toughen up physically.
Other than Arsenal, the biggest rivals in this potential loan deal could be Borussia Dortmund in Germany.
They seem keen on signing Deulofeu as a possible replacement to Mario Gotze and their recent history in terms of using and developing younger players is something which will appeal to Barcelona.
It’s very important for Liverpool to try and pull off this deal because opportunities like this for them are not going to appear on a regular basis throughout the summer.
Liverpool don’t have tens of millions to spend so if they can get a player for a season, valued at the £30 million mark, then that’s the sort of business they need to go after, doing anything to make it happen.
Philippe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge, Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling, Steven Gerrard are all players who thrive around slick passing football and Deulofeu can fit right into that little group.
How do you think Deulofeu would do at Liverpool?
