Liverpool and Newcastle United are likely to lead English interest in the race for Sochaux winger Ryad Boudebouz this summer, with the23-year-old making his desire to leave his club clear in a recent radio interview with French station RMC.
Boudebouz said that he would look at any offers that came in, and with one year left on his contract Sochaux are likely to be keen to sell him this summer to avoid losing him on a free next year.
The Algerian was a reported target for both Liverpool and Newcastle last season, but decided to stay for one more year at the club he has been at since he was a 14-year-old, but rumours have persisted throughout this year about interest from the Premier League.
Boudebouz is an adaptable attacking midfield player who can play on either flank or through the middle. This season he has contributed three goals and seven assists in a struggling Sochaux side, directly influencing ten of the meagre 41 league goals they have scored in Ligue 1 as they finished 16th.
The winger is understandably now keen to challenge himself at a top club, either within France or abroad. Spanish side Real Betis and Marseille have both also been linked with Boudebouz, and Liverpool and Newcastle might have to move quickly if they want to snap him up this summer.
For Liverpool he would add depth to their attack, with Brendan Rodgers likely to persist with three attacking midfielders in his formation next season. Whilst Newcastle might consider Boudebouz as a replacement for Hatem Ben Arfa if the Frenchman leaves, or even just as back up given Ben Arfa’s frequent injury problems.
Given his contract status and desire to leave, Boudebouz would probably be a relatively cheap acquisition for either side this summer, and after a another fine season at Sochaux, the 23-year-old looks ready to make an impression at a new club.
