David de Gea trying to persuade Thiago to join Manchester United

Thiago Alcantara has admitted David de Gea is doing his bit to persuade him to join Manchester United.

Thiago Alcantara is soon to head off on international duty with Spain's under-21 side, along with David de Gea who he played alongside in the 2011 European Championship winning squad.

The pair are overage players hoping to repeat the success in Israel when the tournament kicks off next week, and could even be playing alongside each other at Manchester United next season.

The Red Devils have been linked with a move for the Barcelona midfielder, who can be bought for €18 million this summer due to a clause in his contract relating to the fact he has not played a stipulated number of minutes.

The midfielder has admitted that United goalkeeper David de Gea has been trying to twist his arm into moving to Old Trafford, when speaking to the media today.

He said: "All players want the best players in their team. I could say I hope that he comes to Barca in the same way he says things about me. I just think he was having a bit of fun and not too much should be read into it."

Thiago went onto add that he would assess his future and potentially listen to offer after the championships and not before.

"I just live my life and I am very happy. I enjoy it in Barcelona because I have lived through some great times but we will see what happens after the Euros. Any player is used to living with rumours about him and they just cannot affect you."

The fact he is remaining professional and concentrating on his football is positive, he was Barcelona's star man in their 2-0 away win over local rivals Espanyol at the weekened.

De Gea's comments are likely as Thiago said, simply a bit of fun, but unlike the midfielder comments, the tables can't be turned quite so easily.

While Barcelona need a goalkeeper, United are not going to sell De Gea, while due to the contract clause, the Spaniards cannot prevent Alcantara from leaving them this summer if the Red Devils make them an offer.

What United fans can read into this, is that Thiago is now for sure aware of any potential interest from United, and can start weighing up pro's and con's of joining them this summer.

Whilst on international duty, 'Agent De Gea' will no doubt attempt to have a further word in his colleague's ear and see if he can sway him.

Whether he will, we will all have to wait until the tournament is over to find out. By which time the midfielder could have lost his squad number at the club due to the arrival of Neymar (find out more here).

The positive is that no matter how much Thiago excels at the championships, they do not have to worry about his price-tag shooting up, but they may just find the competition for his signature increases.

Would Thiago be a strong addition to United this summer?
