Could Chelsea swap Torres for Yilmaz?

Chelsea are desperate to bring in a world-class striker this summer and equally as desperate to offload £50 million flop Fernando Torres but perhaps they could strike a deal to effectively kill two birds with one stone.

Torres has underperformed for the Blues to put it mildly since his arrival from Liverpool in 2011 for £50 million. Perhaps it was the expectations that came with the price tag, who knows, but somewhere on the journey from Merseyside to West London he lost his feet and never quite found them again.

It’s been unfortunate for the Spaniard and it’s clear he needs to go in search of pastures new for the sake of both the club’s future and his own. Meanwhile the Blues have been linked with interest in Galatasaray frontman Burak Yilmaz who has scored and incredible 32 goals 39 appearances for the Turkish side.

At 27-years-of age he is a mature, experienced and seasoned forward with exactly the kind of goals to game ratio Chelsea will be looking for in the transfer market this summer.

However, Galatasary will be unlikely to let Yilmaz go for cheap – according to reports they’re reluctant to even discuss his transfer for any less than £20 million and whilst Chelsea have spending power they could look to use Torres as a makeweight in the deal.

Torres’ value has dramatically decreased since his arrival in 2011 – the Blues would be lucky if he fetched even half of what they paid for him just two years ago. I wouldn’t be surprised if Torres is ultimately a bargain chip for Yilmaz at Galatasaray.

Rather than sell him for a fraction of what they paid for him, perhaps Chelsea will prefer to package him with a bundle of cash in return for a new and improved striker from the continent.

Galatasaray will, of course, need to replace Yilmaz if he is sold anywhere this summer and Torres could definitely use a change of scenery from England. He may prefer to return to his homeland and former club in the Spanish capital but Galatasaray could be his best option.

In fact he might find himself in some familiar company as former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba current resides at Galatasaray. Would the Blues swap Torres plus cash for Burak Yilmaz? They’d be crazy not to consider it and Torres could certainly do a lot worse than the Turkish champions.
