A disappointing season for Manchester City has ended without a trophy and with Roberto Mancini being fired, but which City players have performed well this season?
Here are our top five...
The clear stand out player for Manchester City this season, Pablo Zabaleta was exceptional in an ever-changing defence. His sending off in the FA Cup final was a sad end to a fine year for Zabaleta, but he has the quality and fight to come back stronger than ever for City next season.
A scandalous omission from the PFA Young Player of the Year shortlist, the 20 year old has established himself at the heart of City’s defence in his debut season in England. Playing with the assurance of a far more experienced player, Nastasic has helped his team keep 11 clean sheets in his 21 league appearances.
Going into the season with Tevez, Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli on their books, City fans must have felt confident about the strength of their attack. However a mixture of injuries, poor form and off the pitch problems have all played their part in a poor year for City’s strikers, but Carlos Tevez has largely avoided all of these pitfalls to score eleven and set up eight for his team.
Toure might not have been able to live up to the standards he set himself last season, but the Ivorian has still been one of City’s best players again this season. Having signed a new long term contract at the club, whoever the manager is at the Etihad next season will be counting on Toure to drive the team back to winning ways next season.
Silva is another player who has not played as well as last season, and his drop off in form has certainly been a big factor in City’s inability to defend their Premier League. However despite not being at his best all year, Silva has still produced plenty of magic moments, and was a very influential player in their attack, and only Leighton Baines has created more chances than the Spaniard in the Premier League this season.
