A round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.
Rafa Benitez has backed Chelsea to continue to improve next season, and said that he never allowed the abuse he received from Blues fans to deter his focus at Stamford Bridge.
"They've grown (this year) and they will be much better next season," he said.
"They have more experience and you can see the team was improving. Always in football you win trophies at the end of the season.”
Fernando Torres and Juan Mata have both been called up to Spain’s squad for the Confederations Cup in Brazil next month. Torres has been left out of Vicente Del Bosque’s squad for Spain’s recent matches, but an end of season upturn in form has earned him a recall.
Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly set to battle for Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric this summer, with Jose Mourinho apparently keen to bring the Croatian with him from Madrid. Modric has had a mixed debut season in Spain, and might be happy to return to the Premier League after impressing during his time at Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea’s first completed transfer this summer could be for Marco van Ginkel, the Vitesse Arnhem midfielder who was recently named Netherlands ‘Talent of the Season’. Chelsea have a good relationship with Vitesse, having sent three players on loan to the Dutch club this season.
Big spending Monaco are reportedly lining up a £25million bid for Branislav Ivanovic. The 29-year-old defender is being considered by Claudio Ranieri’s team after they were unsuccessful with a move for Vincent Kompany.
Edinson Cavani has insisted he is only thinking about Napoli at the moment, but that he would discuss his future with the Serie A club if a big offer came in.
"Real Madrid, Chelsea and (Manchester) City are interested in me? I just think about Napoli,” he said.
"If an important offer were to come in, I will talk with president (Aurelio) De Laurentiis.”
In other transfer news, Chelsea are apparently set to rival Liverpool for Lille’s 19-year-old left-back Lucas Digne, who has also been linked with Manchester United and PSG after a fine season in France.
