Reading may have suffered the heartbreak of relegation but there was some cause for optimism with the performance of certain players.
Reading need to quickly re-build over the summer, build a promotion winning team and fight to get back into the top flight of English football.
Their chances of doing just that will be a lot better if they can retain five key players from this season.
The centre back played 29 games over the course of the season scoring a single goal in the process. At times he looked like one of the best defenders in the division and at 26-years-old he still has time to dominate that back four for Reading for many years to come.

The striker took the cliché of super sub to a whole new level, making his biggest impacts this season coming off the bench. On 23 occasions he came on as a sub and he bagged 12 goals and two assist from all performances over the season.
Jobi McAnuff played a big role in the midfield as a player and an even bigger role in the team as a leader. He started all 38 matches for the club throughout the season and provided eight assist from midfield although he didn’t manage to grab a goal himself.
Robson-Kanu is on the list for the impact he made despite a young age of just 23-years-old. He started 13 matches and appeared as a sub in 12 matches, scoring seven goals and creating two assists from his role down the left of the Reading midfield.
Alex McCarthy has to be on the list for some of his outstanding performances in goal, which have led to him being called up in the latest England international squad.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper only played in 13 matches, which would have been more had it not been for injury, but Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers described him as one of the best young goalkeepers he’s ever seen.
Which other Reading players deserve to be on the list?
