Five Chelsea players who could follow Rafa Benitez to Napoli

We highlight five players who might be tempted to follow the Spaniard to Serie A should he be confirmed the manager of Partenopei this month.

Rather prematurely it seems that Napoli let the cat out of the bag in regards to their future manager. After Inter Milan’s Andrea Stramaccioni was officially relieved of his duties at the Giussepe Meazza Stadium it was quickly announced that the long-touted replacement Walter Mazzarri would indeed be taking the Nerazzuri hot-seat next season.

That left Napoli with a gap that needed filling and it seems Aurelio De Laurentiis revealed that ‘interim’ Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez would be taking the job next season.

While the Napoli president has since back-tracked on those statements it still seems that Bentiez’s arrival at the Stadio San Paolo is to join the growing list of worst kept secrets in world football.

So with that move simply waiting to be made public we take a look at some of the players that could follow the Spaniard to Italy from Stamford Bridge…

Cesar Azpilicueta

Earlier this month the Spanish right-back was one of very few people leaping to the defence of his manager. The 23-year-old arrived at The Bridge last summer and after a difficult start cemented his place as the starting full-back in the XI.

He said that Benitez taught him many things that have turned into a proper Premier League player and that he would always be thankful for that fact.

Perhaps he could decide to follow his countryman to Italy?

Fernando Torres

There was never going to be any surprise about his inclusion in the list. Torres has now worked with Benitez at both Liverpool and Chelsea; with Benitez managing to get the best out of his striker more than any other Chelsea boss previous.

With Edinson Cavani set to leave this summer Napoli are on the search for a new striker; could Torres be the ticket?

Nathan Ake

The Dutch youngster has finally made his breakthrough under Benitez amid a time of Chelsea’s youth academy and talent identification schemes taking a bashing over Nemanja Matic.

He could do what Paul Pogba did to Manchester United in 2012 and decide he stands more chance of first-team football in Italy.

The Brazilian has already been mentioned as potentially being on Benitez’s radar for his next job and our very own Lewis Doe took a lot at the possibility of such a deal earlier in the week.

Yossi Benayoun

Another player to have played under Benitez at both Liverpool and Chelsea during his career he recently expressed a desire to leave Stamford Bridge and potentially take in another foreign league.

A bargain cover player who might just be worth a punt.

Do you think any of these players will follow Rafa Benitez to Campania?
