Juande Ramos has tipped Gareth Bale to sign for Real Madrid. Or has he?
Juande Ramos was one of the four managers who have overseen Gareth Bale's career at Tottenham, although he didn't quite get him at his peak like Villas-Boas has this campaign.
He is now managing in Ukraine with Dnipro Dnipropetskov, no doubt being handsomely paid for his leadership.
Before that and after Tottenham of course, he had a spell with Real Madrid, and Spanish paper Marca decided to quiz him on the Welshman yesterday.
After doing so, they ran a big headline as follows:
THE REAL MADRID EX-MANAGER BACKS HIS ARRIVAL
Juande: "Bale would be a great signing"
Except when you look a bit deeper into Marca's article, they were being more than a bit cheeky in declaring he had 'backed Bale for Madrid.'
Ramos was quizzed on Bale and was quick to sing his praises.
"Bale is a magnificent player. He's only 20 years old and already has his own personality. He would adapt perfectly to another club."
Bale was injured for much of Ramos' time at Tottenham, which led to him saying: "I would have loved to be able to count on his services more.
"His performance this season has come of no surprise to me. Back then you could see that he had some very special characteristics and excellent qualities."
And that ladies and gentleman is pretty much it. Nowhere does Ramos come out and say 'Bale would be a great signing' nor does he say Bale should move to Madrid for the sake of his career or for any other reason.
It's clear to see that he was saying Bale's qualities as a player and a person mean he could adapt and blossom in any scenario, but encouraging him to move, not from where we're reading.
