Tottenham Hotspur latest: Including Baldini and Napoli approach

Napoli

News and gossip from the past 24 hours at White Hart Lane.

Napoli have confirmed they have approached Andre Villas-Boas about the soon to be vacant managerial role at the Stadio San Paolo. The Neapolitan sides president Aurelio De Laurentis confirmed the club approached AVB in a Portuguese paper. However Rafa Benitez is the favourite for the role.

Sergio Ramos believes that Gareth Bale would be the perfect signing for Real Madrid. The Spanish international stated that Bale is a ‘Real Madrid-quality’ signing. It comes the day after Bale gave a clue toward staying with Spurs next season despite mounting interest in the double PFA player of the year.

The hope of bringing in Franco Baldini as the clubs new director of football has hit a snag as it is reported talks between the former England assistant and the AS Roma board have been positive. Roma president James Pallotta confirmed that as far as he was concerned ‘’Franco is staying’’. Andre Villas Boas recently reiterated his belief in a need for a director of football to help Tottenham join the footballing elite.

Spurs are ready to target both Leandro Damiao and Roberto Soldado for next season. The strikers are part of AVB’s vision to rebuild the club and it is believed Spurs will contact Internacional and Valencia about the pairs availability imminently. The club are currently short of options up-front with just Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor as recognised strikers. The same report also believes Scott Parker and Tom Huddlestone are up for sale.

Tottenham’s technical director Tim Sherwood is being lined up by Brighton and Hove Albion as a replacement for Gustavo Poyet; who looks set to leave the club after being suspended recently. Sherwood’s relationship with Villas-Boas has reportedly become fractious in recent months which could lead to his departure.

On the website today we have looked into the possibility that rather than a late collapse costing Tottenham the Champions League but in fact it was a poor start to the campaign that cost Spurs their main target.

Meanwhile we also assess whether Tottenham would in fact be better off selling Gareth Bale and cashing in on the talented Welshman after his excellent season at the club.
