Arsenal to write off at least £34.4 million worth of talent this summer

We take a look at the players likely to leave Arsenal this summer; and the price it originally cost to bring them to the club.

Andrey Arshavin - £14.5 million from Zenit St Petersburg

Maraoune Chamakh - Free from Bordeaux

Andre Santos - £6.2 million from Fenerbahce

Park Chu Young - £5.7 million from AS Monaco

Sebastien Squillaci - £5.7 from Sevilla

Lukasz Fabianski - £2.1 million from Legia Warsaw

Nicklas Bendtner - £200k from FC Copenhagen

Johan Djourou - Free from Etoile Carouge

This is a list of players likely to be leaving Arsenal on the cheap this summer; in fact in some cases it is more than likely and indeed confirmed.

Andrey Arshavin holds the biggest price tag of the bunch but after falling down the pecking order at The Emirates in recent times he will leave when his contract expires this summer; for diddly squat.

Chamakh is also certainly on his way out after failing to make an impact with West Ham on loan. A return to Bordeuax is on the cards after an awful spell in England. At least he was a bosman transfer.

Then you have Andre Santos and Park Chu Young. Both have never truly looked up to Premier League standard and are currently out on loan at Gremio and Celta Vigo respectively. Santos recently agreed a lucrative commercial deal in Brazil so seems on his way while reports in 2012 suggested that Arsenal were ready to release Park from his deal this summer.

The same fate may greet French international Squillaci; who has done nothing but warm the bench since his arrival. An apparent move back to Ligue 1 looks likely.

Fabianski is a more curious case as he has recently made the first team. But after yet another injury problem Arsenal are likely to want rid of him while the Pole will not sign a deal if he has no chance of becoming number one; which he doesn’t with a new goalkeeper high on the summer agenda.

Bendtner and Djourou are likely to be less painful departures. This is part of the risk when you gamble on young players; sometimes it just doesn’t work and Arsenal should still make a handsome profit on both players.

But this is just a list of those it seems likely to be on their way. The likes of Bacary Sagna, Thomas Vermaelen and Gervinho are also being linked with a summer departure which would see that price-tag of wasted talent rocket.

Arsenal will hope for better acquisitions this summer.
