There have been conflicting reports today surrounding the future of Arsenal transfer target Gonzalo Higuain. First thing this morning it appeared that The Gunners had missed out on their man as it was reported in Italy that a deal for the player had been confirmed; with the small matter of a price-tag all that’s left to be agreed.

However his agent later confirmed that such reports were premature and that talks were in the ‘early stage’.

It comes amid increased speculation that Arsenal are nearing giving clearance for a £19 million swoop for the Argentine as they seek to improve their squad ahead of next season.

There is increased speculation today surrounding the future of Thomas Vermaelen who has falling down the pecking order after a poor season. The Belgian international now finds himself behind Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker in the first-team and reports suggest he may fear losing his regular place in the competitive Belgium team if this trend continues.

The Sun report that Arsenal will listen to bids as low as £5 million for the 27-year-old club captain who is being linked with Barcelona and Manchester United.

Emmanuel Frimpong’s injury hell continues as he looks set to miss the majority of pre-season after going under the knife on Wednesday. The Ghanaian has been on-loan at Fulham and injured his knee against Fulham on Sunday; the latest in a long line of knee trouble. He is expected to be out for around two months.

Reported Arsenal transfer target Asmir Begovic insists he is not getting ahead of himself but did admit he did not ‘know yet what will happen’ when he returns from his holiday. Valued at £15 million by former Potters boss Tony Pulis; with Jack Butland arriving a new coach may be sympathetic toward letting him go cheaper. Arsenal are apparently after the 24-year-old Bosnian international to fill their problem goalkeeper spot.

Arsenal will have to do battle with Borussia Monchengladbach for German youth international Leon Goretzka. Dubbed the ‘next Mario Gotze’, although he is more like Michael Ballack in reality, he is available for £3 million from 2.Bundesliga outfit VfL Bochum.

Arsenal will face more competition when it comes to re-signing Cesc Fabregas after it was revealed in France that Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in the Barcelona midfielder. Manchester United and AC Milan are also said to be keen.

Arsenal youngster Jordan Wynter has turned down a contract extension with Arsenal in order to sign a two-year deal with Bristol City. The 19-year-old is said to be after regular first-team football.
