€8 million Liverpool transfer target in 'agreement' with Galatasaray

Seen as a potential replacement for Jamie Carragher the Lille defender Aurelien Chedjou in fact seems like he is on his way to Turkey

Just two days ago these were the words of Lille defender Aurelien Chedjou, the Cameroonian expressing a distinct desire to play Premier League football; especially with Liverpool as a replacement for Jamie Carragher:

"Nothing is done with any club. Yes, I want to move from Lille and get another experience of my life. Liverpool could be great. An enormous club with fantastic fans and the Kop to add."

The 27-year-old has emerged as a popular transfer target in recent months as Lille attempt to raise funds this summer and Liverpool looked like the strong favourites to snap him up despite interest from the likes of Newcastle United, AS Monaco and Olympique Marseille.

Now it seems that Liverpool have missed out on their man.

Le10Sport report that Chedjou has all but agreed a move to Turkish outfit Galatasaray. In fact if you click on his Wikipedia page that has already been updated such (although that is of course proof of nothing) so this appears to be a deal in the pipeline; some way down the pipeline as well.

For Gala it is another big coup as they look to continue adding to their increasingly quality squad with the addition of this €8 million centre-half.

The 14-cap Cameroon international is perhaps an early blow in Liverpool’s hunt for a new centre back option in light of Carragher’s retirement.

While Kolo Toure seems to be on his way there is little doubt the Ivorian is being brought in more as experienced back-up than anything else. While Brendan Rodgers’ desire to bring in former player Ashley Williams from Swansea City has been harpooned by the board; who rightly question the logic in signing an unproven soon to be 29-year-old at £12 million.

So while it looks like Galatasaray will be imminently celebrating another transfer coup Liverpool must continue to scour the continent for a player worthy of their interest; and Carragher’s place in the starting XI.

Are you glad Liverpool did not get Chedjou? Is he a transfer miss?
