Thiago Alcantara is a player we have long touted as a potential star of Manchester United's midfield, and it could really now be happening.
"Manchester United is looking to contract Thiago Alcantara for next season. It will not even have to enter into negotiations with Barcelona if it stumps up a figure of €18 million, a proposal under serious consideration."
This is because Thiago has a release clause written into his Barcelona contract, which stipulates he can be bought for the above price because he has not played a minimum number of games this season.
If it wasn't for this, Thiago's release clause would be €90 million Euros, although it was reported just a fortnight ago that Barcelona would be willing to sell at £25 million, or €30 million.
It represents a massive saving for United on a genuine Paul Scholes replacement, for the Spaniard has the talent to blossom at United, even though he has been under-utilised at the Nou Camp this season.
Marca claim that Bayern Munich are also likely to be interested, but base that assumption purely on the fact their new boss is to be Pep Guardiola, who handed Thiago his debut.
Key to any deal, Thiago is said to be keen to move on, fearing the path at Barcelona is blocked by Xavi, Iniesta, and Fabregas.
