VIDEO: Will Jonny Evans be banned for this punch?

A video has shown Manchester United defender Jonny Evans punching West Brom’s Markus Rosenberg.

Evans had better hope like there’s no tomorrow that the referee or linesman saw the incident because if they didn’t, Evans could find himself staring at a three match ban at the start of next season.

Evans seems to have taken objection to being blocked by Rosenberg as he tried to get back into a good defensive position as West Brom surged forward with the ball.

It’s quite deliberate on the part of the West Brom star but that doesn’t excuse the right hook Evans throws as he tries to run back towards his own goal. Needless to say Rosenberg seems to go down like a ton of bricks.

Evans was promptly substituted by Sir Alex Ferguson with Rio Ferdinand coming on, which seemed to suggest that the United bench had spotted the incident while the officials seemed to miss it.

This video could easily find its way into higher places, which increases the chances it will be referred to the powers that be in football and I don’t think anyone can argue that if the referee saw that, it would be a straight red card offence.

Take a look;

Should he be banned? Do you think anything will come of it?
