News and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.
Arsenal's efforts to sign Lukasz Piszczek now look to be over, after the 27-year-old confirmed he would undergo surgery on a troublesome hip surgery after Borussia Dortmund's Champions League Final. The operation would rule him out of action until November, making completing any transfer almost impossible.
Another Germany based star it looks increasingly likely that Arsenal will not be signing is German keeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen. The Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper was earmarked as a potential summer recruit; to help shore up the flimsy goalkeeping situation at The Emirates. But the young stopper is instead set to reject both Arsenal and Inter Milan’s interest to become the replacement for Victor Valdes at Barcelona.
Arsenal are expected to announce the signing of 20-year-old French striker Yaya Sanogo imminently. The deal was announced last week and now the Auxerre player himself, who has been compared to Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, has stated his desire to move to Arsenal on a free transfer (subject to compensation).
On the site we have looked at the potential deal for Sanogo which has got even closer as he is reported to be on his way for a medical.
Arsenal outcast Marouane Chamakh is again being linked with a move away from the club; back to former stomping ground Bordeaux. The Moroccan has struggled as an Arsenal player and also failed to make any impact at West Ham during a loan spell this season. However it appears he may be on the verge of taking a pay-cut in order to return to his former club although there has not yet been any formal contact between the parties involved.
Arsenal midfield talent Jack Wilshere has been speaking frankly about his ambitious career plans; admitting it is his dream to captain both club and country. Wilshere, who is due to have an operation this week to remove scar tissue from his ankle, had this to say about the potential to captain his country one day:
"I want to captain Arsenal and I want to captain England. That definitely appeals to me. It's my ultimate dream. People say players are no longer bothered about wearing the England shirt.
"But for me it's the pinnacle of my job because club rivalries go out of the window and the entire nation comes together behind you - it's the best feeling."
Arsenal’s apparent deal for Stevan Jovetic appears to be in doubt after comments made by the Montenegrin’s current club Fiorentina today. It has been widely believed Arsenal have made Jovetic their number one transfer target this summer and that a deal could be in the pipeline.
However La Viola’s sporting director Daniel Prade said he has had no contact with Arsenal and that he believes the interest to be ‘non-existent’.
Finally, and on the site, Nick Harris has taken a look at the five priorities Arsene Wenger must address in order to succeed next season.
