A round-up of news and views relating to Chelsea over the past 24 hours.
After Jose Mourinho was confirmed as leaving Real Madrid last night, speculation has gone into overdrive about his imminent arrival at Chelsea, and Fernando Torres has revealed that he is keen to work with the Portuguese coach.
“The chance to work with Mourinho is something every player wants to do at least once in their lives,” he said.
“Normally, everyone is linking Mourinho with Chelsea but we will see what happens. I think we have to be ready [for him to come]. I am really looking forward to next season, it’s going to be very exciting.”
There have been reports that Jose Mourinho is planning a move for Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez to bolster Chelsea’s attacking options this summer. Gomez might be available for around £25million if Bayern’s new manager Pep Guardiola decides he is not part of his plans.
Romelu Lukaku has said that he is unsure over what role he will play at Chelsea next season, despite scoring 17 teams in the Premier League on loan at West Brom this year. Lukaku is keen to play first team football next year to try and secure a place in Belgium’s World Cup squad, and could go out on loan again. Manchester City have reportedly edged ahead in the race for Edinson Cavani, with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis suggesting he might try and broker a deal for the Uruguayan that involves Edin Dzeko heading in the opposite direction.
Serbian striker Lazar Markovic also seems set to snub a move to Chelsea in favour of Benfica, the side the Blues bested in the Europa League final. Markovic had looked certain to join Chelsea, at one stage even visiting Stamford Bridge to look at the facilities, but now has said he would be keen to join Benfica.
There has been speculation that Real Madrid are lining up David Luiz as a possible replacement for Pepe at the end of the season. The Brazilian has had a fine season at Stamford Bridge, whilst Pepe fell out of favour with Jose Mourinho at Real.
Florent Malouda is releaved to be leaving Stamford Bridge after a difficult year where he was forced to train with the reserves. Malouda’s contract has now expired, and he could head back to France this summer.
