All the latest Arsenal news and gossip.
Reports Stevan Jovetic is 'heading to Arsenal' have been countered by Fiorentina, who insist no such deal is on.
Club director Daniele Prade told Rai Sport: "In my view, Arsene Wenger has no interest in Jovetic, as we haven’t had any contact with them.
“The Arsenal option does not exist. The situation will be resolved directly by the President and we are there to see what happens. Obviously, we’d be very happy if Jovetic decided to stay with us"
Earlier in the day a different scenario was reported: it was reported that Arsenal have submitted a bid of €28 million Euros to Fiorentina, with their co-owner Andrea della Valle admitting it is 'very unlikely' the Montenegrin will stay, even though they still harbour hope that he may.
He said: "It’s very unlikely he will stay, but in any case he behaved professionally and fairly this season."
€30 million is the price quoted in many of this evening's papers, higher than Arsenal were claimed - now it seems incorrectly- to have bid.
Jovetic's agent Fali Ramadani was even said to be currently in London to discuss 'advanced negotiations' with the Gunners, intending to report back to the 23-year-old. This is very much still possible, even if discussions between Arsenal and Fiorentina have not begun.
In other news, Auxerre forward Yaya Sanogo has declared Arsenal as his first choice if he is to leave the French side, after Arsene Wenger confirmed last week a deal was imminent. The 20-year-old's contract runs out at the end of June. UPDATE: It has since been confirmed that Sanogo is due to undergo a medical at Arsenal.
The Telegraph reported last night that Arsenal are considering a £19 million bid for Gonzalo Higuain of Real Madrid, with a belief at the club they can really sign the striker. The Italian press claim Juventus are his choice, but they are unlikely to meet Real's asking price. We have also put forward today the suggestion that the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti could see Higuain hold fire on a move until he knows the new manager's intentions towards him.
The paper also claim that Asmir Begovic, Étienne Capoue and Lukasz Piszczek have all been scouted recently, although Begovic is said to be closer to a move to Liverpool.
Lukas Podolski was yesterday quizzed on a move to Juventus, and politely suggested that anything is possible, springing dozens of headlines that he could be signing for them. A more accurate appraisal of the quotes and story can be found here.
And finally, a look at Thomas Vermaelen- First we are asking whether he should continue as Arsenal captain, and secondly with Barcelona falling short in attempts to sign Mats Hummels and Vincent Kompany, if they may turn their attention to the defender instead.
