News and gossip from White Hart Lane this weekend.
Spurs have just missed out on the Champions League despite beating Sunderland 1-0 at White Hart Lane. Gareth Bale should have had a penalty in the first half but was instead ridiculously shown a yellow card for diving before Hugo Lloris made a smart save from Conor Wickham.
David Vaughan was sent off for Sunderland in the second half before Bale hit a magnificent long-range strike to seal a 1-0 victory.
However it was not enough as Arsenal scraped a 1-0 win against Newcastle United courtesy of Laurent Koscielny’s second half goal.
Andros Townsend has admitted he has learnt a lot during his loan spell at QPR. The 21-year-old winger has arguably been one of the relegated clubs best players this season despite only playing half the season at Loftus Road and is expected to demand a first-team role or transfer this summer. He played the final game of his loan spell at Anfield today.
Tottenham transfer target Younes Belhanda refused to be drawn on his future at Montpellier when asked this weekend. The Moroccan international insisted he simply did not know what his future held and instead wanted to focus on his manager Rene Girard; for whom Saturday’s tie against Lille was his last home game in charge of the club.
Tottenham’s hopes of signing Luke Shaw from Southampton have taken a hit after it was revealed the club he has admitted supporting were mentioned as being the front-runners for his signature. The England under-21 international is reportedly a target for Chelsea in a potential £10 million deal.
Liverpool will reportedly try to tempt Tottenham into selling on-loan Sunderland left-back Danny Rose this summer. The Mirror reports that a move in the £5 million region is being readied for the young full-back who has been one of a few shining lights in Sunderland’s dim season.
