All the news and gossip from Stamford Bridge this weekend.
Rafa Benitez celebrated his final game in charge of Chelsea with a win over Everton; who were also saying goodbye to David Moyes. Chelsea took the lead through Juan Mata before Steven Naismith capitalised on some slack defending to steal an equaliser. However it was Fernando Torres who grabbed the final goal of Rafa’s regime.
Before the game Rafa himself was contemplating life post-Chelsea; and refused to rule out a return to Merseyside with Everton. The Spaniard says he has a desire to stay in the Premier League next season with one of the top teams or one with an exciting project.
Southampton full-back Luke Shaw is expected to be the subject of interest from Chelsea this summer. The 17-year-old full-back has recently signed a pre-contract agreement with The Saints but is a self-confessed Chelsea fan and could be available for a fee of £10 million. A deal for Bayer Leverkusen forward Andre Schurrle is also expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
Roy Hodgson is not happy with Chelsea. He is angry at the club along with Premier League rivals Manchester City and Spurs because of their decision to play prestige international friendlies directly after the conclusion of the season. Chelsea have however allowed Gary Cahill, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole early leave from their US tour to feature for the Tree Lions.
Wayne Rooney has been linked with Chelsea in the papers this morning. The Manchester United striker wants to leave Old Trafford this summer and Chelsea are believed to be ready to enter the race with a £30 million bid for the striker.
Despite scoring 23 goals this season Chelsea are apparently ready to cut their losses on Fernando Torres and sell him for £20 million this summer. Atletico Madrid are considered the favourites to snap up the player should Chelsea decide to flog him.
Thibaut Courtois does not want to return to Chelsea at the end of the season. The Belgian number one has had another excellent season on loan at Atletico Madrid this year and would rather stay at the club rather than play second fiddle to Petr Cech at Stamford Bridge next season.
