Gerard Deulofeu has been in great form for Barcelona B this summer; banging in the goals in the Segunda Liga at a brilliant rate it was form that attracted much interest from potential suitors.
But the first team hierarchy has obviously been paying attention as well because he was offered a lucrative new deal this week.
The 19-year-old was rewarded for his good form with a fresh four-year deal at the Nou Camp until 2017 complete with a €35 million release clause to keep the scavengers at bay.
It appears then that the Spanish under-21 international, who has made four appearances so far for the first-team, is seen as making an impact on Tito Villanova’s squad next season.
But what does that mean for some of the players on the books currently.
Barcelona are clearly blessed with talent. However this summer there is set to be something of a summer clear-out with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, David Villa and Cesc Fabregas all rumoured to be on their way out of the club.
Then there are the real fringe players such as Isaac Cuenca. He has been on loan at Ajax and it looks increasingly likely that he will be returning to Barcelona next summer as a renewal that would see him in Holland next season has reportedly fell through due to his wages.
Which must leave a certain Cristian Tello in a quandary.
The Barcelona winger signed a new deal last year with a release clause of £8.4 million written into the deal; his way of saying he wanted first team football or else.
With Cuenca coming back and Deulofeu now considered another first team option Tello is looking increasingly like being in a losing battle for first-team football once again.
Liverpool would happily take him off their hands with his mix of raw pace and technical ability a frightening attribute that Brendan Rodgers would love to accommodate; and at the price he is going for it is too good a deal to turn down.
So while the bad news from Barcelona this week is that Deulofeu is no longer available the good news is what that means for Tello.
Do you think Tello could make an impact at Anfield?
