News and gossip from Stamford Bridge ahead of the final game of the season.
Chelsea have some injury concerns ahead of the game with Everton at Stamford Bridge tomorrow. John Terry is ruled out with the ankle injury picked up against Aston Villa last week that saw him miss the Europa League victory in midweek. Meanwhile Ramires is suspended and Eden Hazard will face a test on his hamstring problem.
Chelsea have now joined the race to sign Cristiano Ronaldo according to The Daily Mail. The Portuguese superstar is reportedly considering his future at the Spanish outfit as he seeks a better pay-deal then his current contract in the Spanish capital. It is thought that Jose Mourinho would be key to any negotiation with him expected to bring CR7 along to Stamford Bridge next season.
Chelsea have given England a boost by announcing that three of the international players at the club will be released from their US tour in order to face off against Republic of Ireland and Brazil in international friendlies. The trio consists of Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Gary Cahill and they will fly back after facing Manchester City in St Louis on the 23rd.
Rafa Benitez remained coy about a potential lap of honour for his last game in charge at Stamford Bridge and has also vented his belief that the club can win the Premier League title next season under their new manager; who he again hinted was likely to be returning boss Jose Mourinho.
If Chelsea can finish in third place Rafa will have reason to celebrate financially as well as professionally. He is set to net a £250k bonus as part of a lucrative clause in his short-term deal at the club should he secure automatic Champions League football next season for The Blues.
Should Chelsea draw and Arsenal score at least two goals in a one-goal difference victory higher than the Chelsea draw the two will have to face off to decide who finishes third in the league and qualifies automatically for the Champions League next season. The venue for that game, should it come to fruition, has been announced as Villa Park. The stadium accommodated the Community Shield last summer as the London Olympics football final was taking place at Wembley on the same day.
