News and gossip from the past 24 hours at The Emirates.
Arsene Wenger has been speaking about his transfer options for the summer; starting by denying any move for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney. The England international recently announced his desire to leave the Premier League champions this summer and has been linked with several Premier League teams; including Arsenal. However Wenger insisted that any contact between the two clubs would be done properly.
One striker who does however seem to be on his way to The Emirates is AJ Auxerre forward Yaya Sanogo. The French under-21 international has been watched by Arsenal for months now and he appears to have done enough to impress his observers. Wenger says talks are in an ‘advanced’ stage with the player who will sign on a Bosman ruling; with an agreed compensation package going in the opposite direction.
Any chance of a potential deal that would have seen Jordy Clasie sign for Arsenal this summer has been ended after he signed a new contract with current club Feyenoord. The Dutch international has also been a target for Fiorentina but signed an extension to his current deal which will see him playing at the De Kuip until 2016 at least. We were one of the first to bring you the news in English so check out the story here…
Harry Redknapp does not believe that Brazilian international goalkeeper Julio Cesar will join Arsenal this summer. The 33-year-old has been one of the few shining lights at Loftus Road this campaign but his manager does not think he will be at The Emirates. Despite confirming that he is likely to leave by suggesting that Rob Green will be number one next season he maintained tat Wenger was yet to get in touch over a deal.
Arsenal are reportedly ready to go head-to-head with Inter Milan for Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin. The Frenchman has been in exceptional form on the South Coast this season and that has made him one of Europe’s most coveted talents. With a bid of £10 million apparently in the offing news that there is unrest in the Southampton hierarchy has helped boost this rumours credibility.
The first player to score a hat-trick at The Emirates is now a free agent. Former Arsenal youngster Jay Simpson has been released by newly promoted Hull City and will now seek pastures new. He bagged the first treble at the new arena in 2007 in a FA Youth Cup match against Cardiff City.
