David Beckham Unveiled As A Galaxy Player

News, views and rumours relating to Manchester United in the past 24 hours.

Former Manchester United favourite David Beckham has announce his plans to retire from football at the end of the season.

The 38-year-old, currently signed to Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain revealed:

"I'm thankful to PSG for giving me the opportunity to continue but I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level."

Back at Old Trafford, veteran defender Rio Ferdinand has called for the team to ‘impress’ new manager David Moyes.

"We've got to prove ourselves to the new manager. He's going to come in with new ideas, new rules, a new regime,” the Englishman told MUTV.

Meanwhile, midfielder Michael Carrick was voted Player of the Year and striker Robin van Persie came first in the fans poll.

Striker Wayne Rooney is expected to be named as England captain by boss Roy Hodgson for the country’s upcoming fixtures against Ireland and Brazil.

Meanwhile Sir Alex Ferguson has ‘slammed’ archrivals Manchester City for sacking manager Roberto Mancini.

“If you look at the behaviour of some clubs, sacking managers left, right and centre,” he stated.

"I'm not naming any one club - it's the whole bloody lot of them.”

"We as a club show patience, show trust, show loyalty and it's rewarded,” added the Scot.

Ferguson also revealed his decision to retire this year was due to his desire to ‘go out a winner’ after United reclaimed the Premier League title from City.

"I said 'I really need to go out a winner. We need to win something'. After the disappointment of last season we couldn't take a second one. I was hopeful we'd win it and we did,” he revealed.

The boss also explained the reasons for appointing David Moyes as his successor:

"He's also got a work ethic about him and he's a serious football man. I think these are the qualities he's going to need," he said.

Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain boss Carlo Ancelotti has dismissed claims he was offered the job as Ferguson’s replacement.

"Ferguson has offered me a job in Manchester? That's a joke," he laughed.

“I can't understand these rumours.”

In transfer news, reports claim that United could lose out on re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo who is linked with an £18 million contract with PSG.

In team news, United take on West Brom on Sunday’s final day of the season at the Hawthorns.

Finally, Robin van Persie has stated he believes every United player should win the Golden Boot, insisting the award is less important than the team’s success.

"It doesn't really matter to me," said the Dutchman.

"To be really honest it makes me feel a bit awkward. A golden boot? They should make 25 or even 28 smaller boots for every single player. I mean that.”
