Two summers ago Thiago Alcantara had the world at his feet as he led Spain's impressive under-21 side to winning the European Championship.
The Barcelona starlet followed that up by breaking into the first team, including a pre-season strike over Manchester United, but truthfully since then it has not been plain sailing for him.
This season he has still featured in 24 La Liga games for Barcelona, but the 22-year-old generally struggles to be noticed above the likes of Xavi, Iniesta and even Cesc Fabregas.
Now reports from Spain state that Barcelona have 'put him up for sale' for the price of €25 million Euros with newspaper Mundo Deportivo running the story that they are inviting offers for the player.
This season has seen Thiago's development stall to the point that is is considered he will need to move from Barcelona to a club where he will get more regular first team action.
A team previously linked with signing him are Manchester United, where a starting spot would in no way be guaranteed, but he could surely offer the club more than Anderson has this season, while also putting his name in the mix to replace Paul Scholes.
Barcelona are looking to free up cash to sign Neymar and other defensive recruits, by selling of David Villa, Victor Valdes and Alexis Sanchez, with Thiago the latest name to be added to that list.
With Fabregas affirming his desire to stay another season, the path for Alcantara will remain blocked and he will be well advised to try his luck elsewhere.
He has three goals and nine assists to his name this season, with four goals and eight assists the year prior. He has a €90 million release clause written into his contract but this will become irrelevant with Barcelona willing to listen to far lower offers.

Should Manchester United make a bid?
