With the Europa League Final imminent, Chelsea fans would be excused for tuning out of the never ending transfer speculation for 24 hours or so, but there are occasions where a piece of news is reported which can't be ignored.
The paper claims Chelsea, guided by incoming manager Jose Mourinho, have made an approach for De Rossi, offering a provisional sum of £12 million.
While Gazzetta rightly states from Chelsea's perspective the prospects are 'too good to be true', they believe there are reasons why the Blues may be successful.
De Rossi is 29-years-old, and will turn 30 in July, and the chances for Roma to cash in on their star midfielder if they so wish will soon diminish.
The paper credits De Rossi's 'disappointing season' as reason for Roma to consider offloading the defensive midfielder as they seek to rejuvenate their squad after another season of failing to qualify for the Champions League - adding De Rossi is 'close to saying goodbye to Rome.'
It adds that Jose Mourinho is a huge fan of the midfielder his Inter side used to regularly face, and the manager is also said to have tried to sign him for Real Madrid a couple of years ago.
De Rossi has made 21 Serie A starts this season, plus four from the bench, missing a month of action with a muscle injury earlier in the year.
If Chelsea were to pull this one off it would be an amazing coup although somewhat predictably French side PSG are said to also be showing an interest.
It is the price which makes this one stand out, for only last summer De Rossi was linked with Manchester City for around £30 million, and has a contract until 2017.
It may be optimistic thinking to assume a deal is in any way close to being done, but the reports from Italy certainly make fascinating reading for Chelsea fans.
Would you like to De Rossi to sign for Chelsea?
