Goals from Lukas Podolski (2), Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey proved enough despite a delightful free-kick from Shaun Maloney on the stroke of half time.
Arsenal now face the prospect of a play-off with Chelsea depending on results this final weekend. If Arsenal are to win 2-1 and Chelsea draw 0-0; or the various different connotations of that equation they will have to stage a play-off for third place at a neutral venue. Chelsea take on Everton at home while Arsenal are away to Newcastle. The winner would finish third and qualify automatically for the Group Stage of next seasons Champions League.
Arsenal have been told they will have to fork out £22 million for Real Madrid star Gonzalo Higuain. The 25-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Real Madrid and is keen to start afresh at pastures new. However the Daily Mail informs us that this will not be a deal that comes on the cheap.
Arsenal may face competition from Juventus for their main striking target this season as reports in Italy suggest the Old Lady have launched an £18.5 million bid for the Montenegrin international. They have reportedly offered £18.5 million for the player and hope to lure them with the offer of exchange players into the bargain.
Arsenal target Victor Valdes has reportedly made it clear to his current club Barcelona that he wants to leave this summer. The Spanish keeper has already made his intentions of going elsewhere clear as he hopes to take in a different lifestyle and culture - with the Premier League number one on his list. Barca president Sandro Rosell had previously suggested they might be able to talk him round but that now seems unlikely.

Finally and Arsenal supporters have reportedly announced their trepidation over the clubs decision to invite Turkish side Galatasaray to the Emirates Cup in the summer. The two faced each other at the UEFA Cup final in the year 2000 and it was an occasion marred by violence. Galatasaray join Napoli and Porto in the competition.
