The former vice president of Santos has revealed that Brazilian superstar Neymar has reached an agreement to join Bayern Munich.
The Brazilian striker had been tipped for a high profile and big money move to Barcelona but Vicente Cascione, former official at Santos, insists that his news about Neymar joining Bayern Munich is true.
If it is, then it’s potentially bad news for both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, who both own players that Barcelona would more than likely consider signing if Neymar has snubbed them as Cascione suggests.
United could end up losing Wayne Rooney to Barcelona following his public desire to leave Old Trafford, although there will be serious questions over whether Rooney is a good enough forward to break into the side ahead of Lionel Messi.
He would certainly be interested in a move to the Nou Camp having suffered Champions League heartbreak at the hands of Barcelona on two recent occasions in 2009 and 2011.
The reason Spurs should be fearful of this news if it’s true comes in the form of star player Gareth Bale.
Bale is of the right age, the right sort of fitness and has the right sort of impact potential to be a key player for Barcelona, despite the interest from Real Madrid.
The fact Madrid are seemingly interested in Bale means Barcelona could just double their efforts to make sure they sign the Welshman ahead of their fiercest rivals, which will obviously become something they hold against them.
The only problem with that deal is the fact that Bale doesn’t seem to want to leave Tottenham Hotspur and seems keener on staying at White Hart Lane for a prolonged period of time, which is actually quite refreshing.
If Barcelona have been snubbed then they will react by trying to sign some real high profile players who can definitely improve their side.
Their performance in the Champions League this season showed some shortcomings which haven’t appeared for a very long time and if the time and effort they’ve already put into Neymar is wasted, then every other club with an apparent target for them will suffer.
The reason for United and Spurs fans to be optimistic they will retain their best players comes from the fact the quotes from Cascione are not attributed so their legitimacy and strength is reduced.
It also seems like a major agreement between Neymar and Bayern Munich, which would be very difficult to keep under wraps but as Cascione apparently says: “Anyone who doubts this should wait and see.”
Is Rooney good enough to play for Barca? Would Bale go there ahead of Real Madrid?
