Report: Microsoft names next console 'Xbox Infinity'

Xbox Infinite

Sources from within the computing giant let slip the name.

A report has emerged suggesting that Microsoft will name its next-generation console Xbox Infinity.

Having previously been labelled the Xbox 720 and codenamed Durango, the International Business Times claims that sources from the new console's development team have revealed its true name.

Rumours around the upcoming console's name emerged as the launch date (May 21st) approaches, with a reddit user posting an advertising image with the name Xbox Infinity and the tag line: “Infinite entertainment. Infinite possibilities.”

According to the report other images have surfaced but since been debunked as forgeries, while Microsoft refuses to comment on “rumour and speculation”.

However, fans wont have long to wait before most of their questions are answered, with the company expected to hold an unveiling event similar to the one Sony did for the PlayStation 4 later this month.

A supposed internal memo from the company recently revealed that the new Xbox wont require a constant online connection in order to work, following months of consumer speculation.

“Durango is designed to deliver the future of entertainment while engineered to be tolerant of today's Internet,” read the note to employees.

“There are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection, and those should 'just work' regardless of their current connection status. Those include, but are not limited to: playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game.”
