Who would make way for Isco at Manchester City?

Despite denying a deal has been done, Manuel Pellegrini is seemingly on his way to Manchester City, and he could well bring the brilliant young playmaker with him from Malaga.

Manuel Pellegrini is one of the most sought after managers in European football at the moment, having steered a financially troubled Malaga team to within a couple of minutes of the Champions League semi-finals in their debut season, and kept them in the European place in La Liga despite their off the pitch problems.

Pellegrini would bring plenty of experience to any club he went to, and for the biggest sides in Europe, he has another very attractive quality, which is his relationship with Isco.

The 21 year old midfielder is rated as one of the most exciting young players in Europe, and is likely to leave Malaga this summer to aid their financial strife. Having recently signed a new deal, Isco will probably be on the market for near £30million, which naturally limits the amount of teams able to compete for his signature.

Manchester City are one team able, and apparently willing, to sign Isco, and with Pellegrini on board they would have an excellent chance. But given their plethora of fine players, who would make way in their team for the 21 year old?

Unless there is a major change in formation, it would likely be one of David Silva and Samir Nasri, with Isco able to fulfil a similar role to those players.

Silva has had an incredibly disappointing season, after being a key figure in City’s title win last year. Nasri has improved significantly in recent months, but is still seen as synonymous with the mercenary players who have let City down so badly this season, with the FA Cup defeat to Wigan proving another catalyst for a savage appraisal of City’s squad.

Isco would likely be an improvement on both players at the moment, but if he could help rekindle Silva’s form, and form a partnership with his fellow Spaniard, City’s attack could prove irresistible next season. How Nasri will accept falling out of the first team might be interesting, and the Frenchman might consider a move to somewhere like PSG if Isco does come to Manchester this summer.
