6. 1972 - Doctors say the Duke of Windsor must remain in his bedroom throughout the Queen's visit to his home in Paris

7. 1974 - India becomes the 6th country to become a nuclear power

8. 1991 - Britain's first astronaut, 27-year-old Helen Sharman from Sheffield, blasts into orbit

9. 1997 - It is announced that MI5 is to open their phone-lines to the public, advertise for staff and release documents from their archives to historians for the first time

10. 1999 - Mick Jagger becomes a father for the seventh time, when Brazilian model Luciana Morad gives birth to an 8lb boy to be named Lucas Jagger

11. 2004 - Sonia Gandhi stuns the Indian National Congress by refusing to accept the Prime Ministership of India
