Who has been linked in at Tottenham Hotspur over the past week?
Tottenham fans may be biting their fingernails to see if Wigan can do them an improbable favour against Arsenal in midweek to rekindle their flagging Champions League hopes, but that has not stopped the club being linked with a number of high profile transfer targets.
The past week has seen a number of top quality players suggested in connection with moves to White Hart Lane, so who are the names to keep an eye on?
We have been keeping track, and have compiled a top six...
1) David Villa
Spain's all-time leading scorer playing for Tottenham? We can only imagine the collective 'yes please' among supporters, although this is surely one move which does depend on Champions League qualification. Reports have suggested Barcelona will sell at the right price, but Spurs are haggling over price. Barcelona want £13 million for the striker who at 31-years-old remains a lethal threat.
2) Christian Benteke
Christian Benteke's younger age and therefore greater longevity arguably makes him a better bet than David Villa, but many are waiting to see if the Belgian is the real deal or will regress after a superb debut season in the Premier League. Aston Villa want upwards of £20 million for the striker, with The Mirror claiming Tottenham are strongly considering a bid for him.
3) Cristian Tello
The second Barcelona player on the list, Cristian Tello is an exciting prospect who has scored seven goals in 12 La Liga starts for the club this season. The left-winger prefers to play a 4-3-3 and would suit Andre Villas-Boas' system, but is reportedly only being considered as a back-up in case Gareth Bale leaves this summer. This could result in them missing out completely with Liverpool keen on a move, but Barcelona are undecided on whether to keep him or sell.
4) Kevin Prince-Boateng
This was a bit of an odd one, with Spurs linked with signing former midfielder Kevin Prince-Boateng by Talksport earlier this week. The Ghanaian has gone onto become a real success since leaving Tottenham, now playing for AC Milan, but is believed to be available for transfer this summer. Manchester City have also been linked, and if Prince-Boateng was to return to Spurs, he would certainly have a point to prove having failed to establish himself first time around.
Spurs were linked with a move for Manchester United midfielder Anderson over the weekend, with the Brazilian unlikely to remain at the Red Devils next season due to a lack of playing time. Anderson and Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas share a Porto connection, although not at the same time, but it's probably wise to remain sceptical over this one.
6) James McCarthy
Wigan midfielder James McCarthy is a hot property at present, helping the Latics to FA Cup victory over Manchester City at the weekend. Chelsea and Arsenal were linked with the Irishman last week, and at the weekend it was claimed Spurs are considering a £10 million bid for the player. He can become a Tottenham hero by leading Wigan to another upset on Tuesday night as they face Spurs' rivals Arsenal.
