Report - Sanchez in and Courtois out at Chelsea

Thibaut Coutois

Barcelona are preparing an audacious bid for Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois according to reports in Spain.

Recently Belgian number one stopper Thibaut Courtois has been grabbing the headlines for all the right reasons with some sensational displays for Atletico Madrid. In the week he added another club record to his resume after beating Abel Resino’s streak of minutes away from home without conceding. He previously broke the home record as well so it is fair to say he is catching the eye in La Liga.

Of course technically he remains the property of Chelsea FC despite being out on loan in Spain for the majority of his London career as a replacement for David De Gea. Now after yet another outstanding season Courtois must be starting to ask himself whether he is good enough to take the place of Petr Cech in the Chelsea first team; because there are several of European footballs’s top clubs just waiting to offer him that opportunity.

For Chelsea it seems one of those clubs are now ready to make a move; and when Barcelona come calling the likelihood is always that the player will leave.

According to fichajes Barca see Courtois as the perfect replacement for Victor Valdes; who has expressed a desire to leave Catalonia this summer for a new challenge. While an original asking price of €23.5 million caused a shirking reflex at the Nou Camp the Barca hierarchy may be able ti tempt them into a sale with the offer of another player in the bargain.

It is believed they will throw Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez into any deal in order to lower the capital cost of any potential deal. Chelsea are hoping to loan out Courtois once again next season but like his countryman Kevin De Bruyne it is believed that the talented stopper is growing very tired of his parent clubs lack of show in faith toward his ability.

As exciting a player as Alexis is you cannot help think that Chelsea would be remiss to let this goalkeeper go. He is perhaps the best young custodian on the continent and to let him leave without ever stepping out at The Bridge would boggle the mind of many a Chelsea fan.

Time will tell what truth is in these reports but one thing for sure is this; Chelsea have a real fight on their hands to keep their Belgian pair happy this summer.
