The force is coming to Britain. George Osborne, the U.K. finance minister announced on Friday that the next Star Wars film will be made in the country.

"Just confirmed: the next Star Wars film will be made in the U.K. Great news for our creative industries. May the force be with us," Osborne wrote on the social media site Twitter on Friday.

Star Wars, created by Director George Lucas is one of the longest running and most successful science fiction film franchises in history.

The first Star Wars movie was released in 1977. A tale of good versus evil, the film became a major box office hit and won eight Academy Awards.

In October 2012, George Lucas sold his company Lucasfilm to Disney for $4 billion.

Six Star Wars movies have been released so far, with the last one, "The Revenge of the Sith", released in 2005.

The seventh film in the series is set to be released in 2015.

Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that the sixth Star Wars movie was "The Force Unleashed 2". It was in fact, "Revenge of the Sith".
