Back in March former Italian international certainly went down the list of footballers to send Christmas card lists (if such a list exists) in regards to Arsenal fans when the former Bayern Munich poacher had this to say about the apparent deal to take Stevan Jovetic to Arsenal in the summer:
"I tell him to think carefully before leaving Florence, as there is an important project here. If he has to leave, then make it for a real top club. Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United fit that bill, but Arsenal are not better than Fiorentina."
Very, very harsh words from the 35-year-old which saw him labelled an ‘IDIOT!’, a ‘joke’ and perhaps most offensive of all a ‘Wally’ on the comments board to the Sky Sports story in question. Sometimes people, your words, they hurt.
Regardless he certainly irritated the Gooners with his comments even if they were more than likely lost in translation and not interpreted entirely as he was trying to make out; but his more recent comments are certainly going to please Arsenal fans a little more than his March moment.
“At the moment he is disappointed because everyone always expects him to do something spectacular. He feels that some of the fans and the media don’t have the same enthusiasm for him as they used to. Stevan is suffering in this situation…”
The claim that Jovetic is suffering should come as music to the ears of Arsenal fans who are starting to see all the pieces fall in to place in the Jovetic transfer jigsaw; it certainly seems that this is a deal on the verge of completion; even if Toni would rather see his ‘suffering’ team-mate playing elsewhere in the Premier League.
But it seems Arsenal are on the verge of getting their man and hopefully he will be only the first addition this summer as Arsenal look to end their long wait for silverware next term; where Jovetic may play a key role.
Do you think Jovetic is on his way?
