...singing and dancing to the Proclaimers '500 Miles'. It must be seen to be believed!
I am half-Scottish and I have always blamed that half of my descent for my love of whiskey and a sing-song on a Friday night. Many a quiet evening in the Monks Retreat has been interrupted by my boisterous rendition of the classics.
We can all thank Saturday morning TV’s first lady Helen Chamberlain for this discovery as it is a video from her personal collection that has highlighted this revelation. She has had the video in question on her phone ever since 2011 but until now has not had the guts to broadcast it on national television; and rightly so. I doubt Sir Alex would have seen the funny side.
But with the Manchester United man announcing his retirement from the game at the end of the season she felt the time was right to share this wonderful moment with the world.
At a charity gala it would appear that Sir Alex had perhaps a few to many and in his merriment got up on stage to perform an impromptu version of The Proclaimers sing-along classic ‘500 Miles’.
As Chamberlain said just before it went out live it offered us an opportunity to see the other side of the Scotsman; away from the hairdryers and chewing gum.
And from what I can see he looks like a manager I would certainly like to hit the town with.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s standing as a legend is now confirmed.
