News and gossip from the past 24 hours at Stamford Bridge.
There is little doubting the biggest news from Chelsea today as Frank Lampard has become the clubs record goal-scorer. The Englishman bagged two vital goals against Aston Villa at Villa Park to take his personal tally with the club to 203; one better than previous holder Bobby Tambling.
The goals had added significance due to their timing; as Chelsea were on the brink of faltering to a shock defeat at the relegation threatened club after Christian Benteke had first given the home side an early lead and Ramires had also been sent off for two bookable offences. But after Benteke received his marching orders Lampard bagged the goals that all but secure their Champions League spot next season.
An emotional Frank Lampard then spoke of his desire to stay at the club after the game. His contract runs out in the summer and there currently appears to be little in the way of negotiating a new deal. He says it will all be decided at the end of the season.
John Terry is reportedly a target for Turkish champions Galatasaray. The former England international is into the final year of his contract and has recently struggled to usurp Branislav Ivanovic and David Luiz in the starting line-up. He has also suffered some injury problems and may see this as the perfect opportunity for a fresh challenge. He would also team up with former team-mate and friend Didier Drogba in Istanbul.
John Obi Mikel has called the club ‘crazy’ as he insists that the players have no inside knowledge on who the next gaffer will be. It came as he was quizzed over the potential return of Jose Mourinho to the club; the man who signed him in 2006 from Lyn Oslo.
Right-back Cesar Azpilicueta has been singing the praises of his boss Rafa Benitez. Although only an interim appointment the Spaniard has taken Chelsea to the brink of back-to-back European titles and the former Marseille player has suggested that his compatriot has made him a proper Premier League player.
On the site we have also had a look at the former Chelsea manager who may be about to sign Radamel Falcao. Claudio Ranieri is the man in question as he tries to snap up the Colombian for his current club AS Monaco.
