Who are the best six players linked with signing for Manchester United this week?
What a week it has been at Old Trafford. Even early on there appeared to be no indication Sir Alex Ferguson would retire and then the bombshell struck.
Replaced with David Moyes, it has been a whirlwind of a week for Manchester United fans and non-stop transfer rumours have also added to the melting pot, with Wayne Rooney linked with a high-profile departure.
But what about those linked inwards? Fortunately we have been keeping track, and have compiled our rankings of the top six transfer targets for fans to get excited about.
Those who featured on last week's list are not included to avoid repetition; these include - Cristiano Ronaldo, Falcao, Robert Lewandowski, Angel di Maria, Nemanja Matic and Claudio Marchisio.
Here is this week's list:
1) Ilkay Gundogan
Ilkay Gundogan is Borussia Dortmund's unsung star but one who has played an integral role in their Champions League run to the final. The midfielder admitted in 2011 that joining United would be a 'dream', and this week the Manchester Evening News reported he would be a target for David Moyes' Manchester United in the summer. He would cost United over £20 million and would be an ideal midfield partner for Michael Carrick.
2) Marouane Fellaini
Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini was instantly linked with a move to United the moment Moyes was offered the job. The Belgian was signed by Moyes at Everton for £15 million and has previously been tipped as a target for the Red Devils after dominating them in several recent encounters. He would add a physical presence to United's midfield which has been missing over the past few seasons.
3) Joao Moutinho
Portuguese midfielder Joao Moutinho has been made available this summer by Porto for £25 million with a number of clubs interested. David Moyes famously tried to sign Moutinho for Everton in 2010 but fell short because he did not have the cash available. This time he does and the timing is perfect for the Scotsman to swoop in and finally get the player he rates so highly.
4) Leighton Baines
Left-back Leighton Baines almost signed for United last summer only for Everton to rebuff the club's advances, but David Moyes may pursue the Englishman with renewed vigour this summer. It would mean Patrice Evra being forced out, but Baines is top quality and would surely blossom at United. His set pieces would become a real threat and it can't be argued a double deal for he and Fellaini would not strengthen the club.
5) Juan Quintero
Before Ferguson retired at the beginning of the week, United were linked with the signature of Colombian whizkid Juan Quintero. The winger plays on loan at Italian side Pescara from Atletico Nacional in his homeland. Quintero scored five goals at the recent South American under-20 championships and represents a cheaper alternative to highly price compatrior James Rodriguez.
At the beginning of this week United were linked with a quite ridiculous swoop on Real Madrid for defender Pepe by the Spanish press. The centre-back is 30 and surely would not constitute a wise investment, which is why he is below Quintero on this list who is on the way up and has unlimited potential to reach, while red-card happy Pepe is unlikely to improve nor adapt well to the Premier League.
